Miami Travel Guide: The Best Places to Visit in Miami, Florida

Remember when I went to Miami and the Keys with Ashley and Jared from Sugar & Cloth and then I never shared the photos from my trip?!

Whoops! I’ve been meaning to share these photos from our vacation for a while now, but I’ve been so preoccupied with holiday stuff that it slipped my mind until now. Today is the day though!

Well, sort of. These are just the photos from the first half of our trip (in Miami). I’ll be sharing the Keys photos next week. But today is all about Miami.

So, if you’re hoping to take a trip to the sunshine state anytime soon, I have a whole bunch of suggestions and recommendations for you. Here’s my travel guide for Miami, Florida…

The first and second day we were in Miami, we walked up and down Ocean Drive, taking pictures of all the art deco buildings and people watching, which was fun. And we popped over to the beach on the other side of the street too. Lots of interesting characters walking those beaches. It was pretty entertaining.

We stayed at Hotel Victor the whole time we were there, which I really liked. The location was perfect (right on Ocean Drive and directly across the street from the beach). Plus, the beds are SUPER comfortable and the marble bathrooms are pretty impressive.

We walked a lot on this trip. Like A LOT! So the hotel location really came in handy, since it was relatively close to almost everything we wanted to check out. AND there is giant candy store and restaurant downstairs called Sugar Factory. We ate lunch here one day and we all basically lost our minds.

The menu here is insane! If you’re a sugar fiend like I am, you’ll feel right at home here (and probably never want to leave). They have giant goblet cocktails covered in candy (I like the mai tai) AND a menu option that involves 24 scoops of ice cream and sparklers! Which you may remember from my Instagram.

Other good food and drink spots include Yardbird // 1930s House // Bodega // Traymore //  Cecconi’s // and Verde. They’re all very good and the majority are actually pretty good photo op spots too, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Ice cream for days!

Cocktails and fries

Verde was one of my favorite restaurants on our trip because it’s on the water and attached to The Perez Art Museum, which is amazing! I would highly recommend you go to the museum and then eat at the restaurant. If for no other reason than to take photos of the building and the amazing landscape architecture.

Aside from eating (and drinking) morning, noon, and night. We also made out way to Wynwood Walls. I know, I know. Everyone suggests Wynwood Walls as a place to check out if you’re in Miami. But Jeff and I had never been and Ashley and Jared were down to go, so we went. There are tons of walls to check out. Surprisingly, most of the murals are outside of the official ‘Wynwood Walls’. But either way, it was pretty damn cool.

Naturally, I took a ton of photos. Probably too many to add here on this already super long post. So, I’ll do a separate post on Wynwood tomorrow. Check back for that.

Strangely, we didn’t spend much time at the beach while in Miami. But we did dip our toes in the water and manage to get all sandy trying to take jumping photos in front of this yellow and white checkered shack on the beach. So, that counts. Right?

Miami is so colorful, I love it! I have a layover there about twice a year, but never leave the airport. Perhaps next time I’ll opt for a day in Miami and finally leave the airport!

I actually live in Miami and you took really nice pictures! My favorite part about Miami is the culture and hope you got to see some of that. Miami has a huge latin community and Spanish is basically our first languge here. Great post and great pictures! Hopefully Miami will see you soon xx
