Workspace Wednesday: Comfort in Clutter

With Thanksgiving less  than 24 hours away, I’ve been thinking a lot about comfort today: comfort food, comfortable sweatpants after eating said comfort food, and even comfortable clutter. Wait, what? You lost me there, Brittni.

Well, sometimes a cluttered workspace is just what the (design) doctor ordered. Its refreshing (and comforting in a way) to see spaces that are ‘less than perfect’ every now again. Because, after all, there is a lot of beauty in to be found in overloaded desk space and inspiration-filled walls. AND organized chaos works well for some people (myself included from time to time).

**I’ll be taking tomorrow off to spend time with family, but be sure to check in again on Friday because I have a mega, and I mean MEGA, Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales list to share with you. It is huge and comprised solely of handmade shops and indie boutiques, with discounts of up to 50% off. Do not miss it!

I’m in love with the work spaces shown here. I’m agreed, I cannot work in a completely sterile and organized environment. But work spaces stay relatively clean but there is color and stimulation everywhere…

…And when I get to working, the mess spreads to every square inch and the “real clutter” happens.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving. I’ll be back on Monday to check out those delicious 50% sales!

ha, that explains why my studio is so “messy” — it’s really just filled with inspiration!
I can’t work if it’s too clean, I need the stimulation and the accessibility of a lot of things within easy reach.

Aw, these clutters look so neat! Why can’t I make my clutter look like that? Right now, I have here in my work space an Avon brochure, the electricity bill, a ball of yarn, a pair of mismatched baby shoes, and the stroller umbrella that I’ve been trying to darn for four days.

Just listing them out and actually looking at them is giving me palpitations. Let me tell you, they are not comforting at all. They remind me of work undone and expenses unpaid.

I think I what I need is a more relaxing set of clutter: pictures, and children’s drawings, and other fun things — like that camera on picture 1.

There. Much better. Gee, it does work!

I love these studios. I often believe (or tell myself!) that if a studio is too clean and tidy, then no work gets done in it. A slight mess = something great is happening!

Thanks for sharing.

Like I tell my husband… everything on my desk is in its place and I know where everything is! I love all these workspaces!! “comfort in clutter” definitely speaks to my style.
