Oh My, Dip Dye! Modern Hanging Holiday Decor

DIY // Modern Hanging Holiday Decor

Now that we’re settled into our new place, I’ve started doing some (minimal) holiday decorating around the house. And the first thing I put up was this dip dyed hanging decor piece. It’s ombre, it’s neon, it’s everything the holidays should be. Amiright?

And if you want to make one of your own, I’ve got you covered. Here’s how to make a DIY dip dyed hanging holiday sculpture…

Supplies:

paper ornaments (from West Elm) // a bowl // water // black acrylic paint // popsicle stick for stirring // neon string (mine is from Amazon)

How To:

1. This project is really easy. Start by gently pulling the paper, so that the ends come back around to each other and the magnets lock together. Now your paper ornaments are ready for dipping.

2. Mix black acrylic paint with a little bit of water, using a popsicle stick to stir the two together. The more water you add the lighter the dip dye effect will be.

3. Dip each ornament into the mixture and then remove and wait for each one to dry.

4. Once dry, tie a large grouping of ornaments together (I used about 20 ornaments for mine, but you can make yours smaller or larger depending on how you like it). Each ornament has a string attached to it already, so they should be really easy to tie together in a cluster.

5. Then attached several long pieces of neon string to the cluster and it’s ready to hang.

I hung mine over my desk to make things feel more festive in my workspace, but it would also look great hanging by the fireplace or in an entryway.

OR if you don’t have a place to hang something like this, you can always create a long (non-hanging) version for the mantle instead.

And if you’re in the mood for some experimenting, I’m thinking this would look really cool with some globe string lights attached somehow too, to make it more functional.

Just make sure not to leave it unattended when it’s plugged into the wall.

The dip dye look is SO GOOD! Though the pop on pink string may be my favorite part….

Thanks Kelly. If there was a part of this DIY you would like most, it would have to be the pink thing. Naturally. πŸ™‚
