The beginning of the year is when most people attempt to put on those running clothes and get back into the exercise game. And I must admit, that I’m in that boat too. I realize that it can be hard to get motivated to work on moving your body again after a month of crazy holiday sweets and mashed potatoes.

Luckily, I have a little trick to get myself motivated right away and while it may not work for everyone, it does for me, so I wanted to share. It’s this…

I buy myself one new piece of workout gear, that I really love, BEFORE I start exercising again. I’m not talking about a sad little pair of sneakers from the discount bin (though I’ve done that many times too – nothing wrong with that). I’m more talking about those color blocked leggings I’ve been eyeing, a sports bra with a cool pattern on it, comfortable (and colorful) running shoes, etc. Just something to encourage myself before I really even get started.

So, I did a whole bunch of window shopping. And put together a big list of cool outfits for working out that will make you feel good while you’re on your way to feeling good, if that makes sense. Come on, treat yo self to a little something to get motivated for the new year.

Exercise is so important for health. I workout 6 to 7 days a week, and i don’t know what i would do without it. I love your fitness inspiration.

This is such a fun idea! I usually do the opposite–I wait to prove to myself that I will actually do the thing (whatever it is) before I go out and buy a bunch of equipment to help me do the thing. I figure if I’m going to run, I will should be willing to do it regardless of what sneakers I have, or if I’m going to start the new craft hobby, I should enjoy it with what I’ve got first. But buying ONE new thing sounds like a great compromise.
