When it comes to women in the art world, there is aveo much talent out there it hurts. And with today being International Women’s Day, I’m celebrating with a list of 17 amazingly talented female artists, that I’ve had my eye on lately.
The former artist/art teacher in me swoons over the work that so many of these female artists are producing right now. And the future art collector in me hopes to own pieces from all of them someday. So, in no particular order, here are 17 incredible female artists, from around the globe, you should be following…
1. The balanced, geometric compositions of artist Bobby Clark satisfy all my minimalist dreams. Her use of white space paired with rich yet muted tones makes her an obvious favorite and, in my opinion, an obvious pick for a variety of design styles. Also, can we just talk about her incredible studio space? Follow Bobby Clark on Instagram.
2. My love of art goes well beyond paint and paper. Photographer Jesse Chamberlin Marble has a unique way of capturing and composing colorful imagery with incredible spacial awareness and quirk. If I’m looking for inspiration before a shoot, she’s definitely a go-to. Follow Jesse Chamberlin Marble on Instagram.
3. I am dying to own a piece by Australian fiber artist, Tammy Kanat. Aside from just being all around talented (she started as a jewelry designer), Tammy creates every piece entirely by hand with extreme attention to movement, texture, and color, which I can always appreciate. Follow Tammy Kanat on Instagram.
4. Textile lovers may know artist Jen Garrido by her alter ego Jenny Pennywood, a small batch textile brand making amazing napkins, pillows, tea towels, and more. Follow Jen Garrido on Instagram.
5. I immediately feel drawn into the work of Austin-based artist, Claire Oswalt. It’s simultaneously calming and captivating, and her mixed media process makes me want to reach out and touch each piece. Don’t worry, I won’t press my greasy little paws to it, but I want to! Follow Claire Oswalt on Instagram.
6. Jessalyn Brooks’ work epitomizes the celebration of females, so of course she made the list! Her take on the human form has a tasteful, modern cubism vibe, which I love. Follow Jessalyn Brooks on Instagram.
7. Long time fan of Kirra Jamison over here. All the colors, and all the love for this lady artist. Her work is an instant mood booster in any space. Follow Kirra Jamison on Instagram.
8. Sister artists Laura Naples and Kristin Giorgi create NGCollective Studio. They layer in a variety of colors and forms to create soothing, neutral feminine pieces. Follow NGCollective Studio on Instagram.
9. Textile artist and fashion designer, Laurence Leenaert of LRNCE, is based in Marrakech and her unique style speaks for itself. As someone who is currently obsessed with Laurence’s work (just bought this pillow set from her shop actually), she is at the top of my list for female artists to know, if you don’t know her already. Follow Laurence Leenaert on Instagram.
10. If you’ve ever seen Heather Day’s process, you’ll understand why she is a favorite. Heather converts landscapes and scenes from her travels into organic color-blocked creations. The final product is super unique, and probably why she has been gaining such popularity these days in the world of interiors. Follow Heather Day on Instagram.
11. If you’re into cooler tones, you’ll definitely be into Samantha Totty. She creates simple but statement-worthy collages with all the right pops of cobalt blue. Follow Samantha Totty on Instagram.
12. Give me all the natural tones of Aussie Hannah Fox’s work, please. I love her interpretations of nature, use of texture, and overall essence. Also, I think it’s time to move to Australia so I can be surrounded by beautiful work like this all the time…Follow Hannah Fox on Instagram.
13. As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about the way colors work together, I’m a big fan of the paintings of Kristin Texeira. Her color palettes really grab me. Follow Kristin Texeira on Instagram.
14. Don’t let Anna Roberts’ work fool you upon first glance. She’s not a photographer, she’s actually a creative with a knack for turning colorful still lifes and street scenes into realistic yet whimsical pastels. In a world bursting with abstract art, I find her portfolio to be a breath of fresh air. Follow Anna Roberts on Instagram.
15. Obviously, I love paper projects over here, and Cheryl Louise Humphreys takes her love of paper to a whole new level. Her embossing technique is mind blowing (which you can also spot on Tappan Collective). Follow Cheryl Louise Humphreys on Instagram.
16. Loving the paintings and mixed media work of Charleston artist, Raven Roxanne. Follow Raven Roxanne on Instagram.
17. Photographer Victoria Zschommler nails it when it comes to creamy tones, surprising color combos, and still life compositions. Not to mention, her instagram feed kindly reminds me that I should consider trading my yoga pants in for something a little more out there. Follow Victoria Zschommler on Instagram.
So now that I’ve shared my must-follow female artists, I’d love to know what females you’re following right now that you find inspiring. Let me know who your fave artists are in the comments below!
