Inspired By…Dark & Moody

Kinfolk: all about the cheese

Right now, I’m at the airport waiting to board a flight for Salt Lake City. I’m attending a special event with Cricut and then onto Alt Summit. But that won’t stop me from posting…

Nine times out of ten I’m all over light and/or white when it comes to photos, styling, interiors, etc. But there is always an exception to the rule. And today? Today, I’m really feeling things that are dark and moody. Photos filled with gorgeous darks and maybe even a little drama. What about you?

I hope you’re saying yes right now because either way, I’ve rounded up my top picks for your dark and moody fix…

1. (above) Really feeling the vibe in this photo. And the styling!

8. Can’t get enough of these images from Joanna McClure.

What about you? Are you inspired by dark and moody photos, interiors, etc?

P.S. Will you be at Alt Summit this week? If so I’d love to meet you in person! Be sure to say hi at the #GlimmerShimmerShake party on Friday night that I’m hosting, along with Chelsea and Ashley. If you like to dance, you’ll fit right in!

I really loved this post so much. Even though really bright white interior design is clearly the opposite in color of dark, and even though they can evoke different moods, i do find a similarity in aesthetic and find that if you like one look you will post likely like the other style too.

I love dark moody bedrooms, they tend to be the perfect sexy atmosphere.

Beautiful photos! I think dark & moody is a refreshing change. So many photos seem overly whitewashed these days.

Jessica

this is actually so inspiring! i also usually so much prefer the lights and everything bright, but seeing all those pictures really makes me thinks that there are another amazing lighting alternatives. Thanks for the idea 🙂

Aini

I love those dark photographs. They say a lot.

Jenna – I always think of Caravaggio when I see dark scenes with any kind of illumination. So, I completely agree about the old paintings.

Beautiful set of photos! Dark photos always remind me of old paintings of more morbid years

Moody and dark pictures are perfect on this ‘blue monday’. Love the shades of dark blue in the pictures.

Of course, Gab! Your photos and styling always have a gorgeous vibe to them. Love the rich dark backgrounds you’ve been using lately.

Hey cutie! Thanks for the shoutout! I’m so into moody photos right now too! I think it’s the lifestyle emo in us, haha. Hope you have a blast! 😀

Right there with you Caroline. Defined mood = Good in my book. 🙂

Love the switch up! I’m totally feeling dark and moody right now too, and these photos are all gorgeous! Really I’m just a fan of any photos that have a distinct mood to them and you nailed it with these!

Caroline

Yep! Agreed, Van. I also feel like it’s a nice change of pace from the white/light/bright photos that I’m usually drawn too.

Love those first two shots especially! Especially when you’re shooting something bright white or bright colored bringing in the dark and gray makes a nice juxtaposition. It’s something I’ve been playing with this year.

Good luck at your conferences!

Van

Good point Nancy. Thanks for stopping by.

I think these moody, dark pictures are perfect for January, when the holidays have passed and the novelty of winter has worn off.
