Memories from my Childhood

When I was in elementary school, my best friend Dara, whom I did pretty much everything with, was a horse back rider. I went with her to a few of her competitions as a kid and more than a handful of her riding lessons as well.

At the end of each lesson, I would help her wash her horse off and brush him, and I remember thinking that horses were the most beautiful creatures I’d known to that point. Even after I was bit by one in the shoulder (it hurt so bad!).

So anyway, when I started to write today’s post about Apples and Oats, all those childhood memories came rushing back to me. And I am so glad that they did. I haven’t thought about Dara or the horses in years. Do you ever have flashbacks like that?

If you are a lover of animals, and horses especially, you will love this photography shop.

Me too! Sometimes memories just come flooding back – and usually associated with a smell. I’ll never forget the few horseback riding experiences I had as a little girl. One summer our family spent a whole week at a dude ranch and I got to ride everyday – that was wonderful!

Your post also reminded me of something funny I had completely forgotten! I have always loved animals but my mother wouldn’t let me have a pet when I was little. So I created an imaginary pet for me. His name was George (I really don’t know why 🙂 and he was a mouse.

George slept with me at night and he followed me almost everywhere, usually hidden in a pocket. One day my mother asked me why I wouldn’t take my hand out of my pocket and I said: ‘I can’t let go of George, because he’ll leap out and get lost.’ I distinctly remember my mother screetching when I told her George was a mouse!
