Moving On…

I’ve been keeping a couple of secrets lately. And I am so excited to be able to spill the beans on one of those secrets right now. It’s just a little news… News that Jeff and I are super excited about!

We are packing our bags and traveling cross country soon because…

We’re moving to Seattle!

…in just a few weeks! It’s been kind of a whirlwind, but I am thrilled to be moving to the west coast. We’ll be headed to “The Evergreen State” sometime in mid-September.

Everything will remain the same at Papernstitch (blog and exhibition site). ย We’ll just be in a new place. A place with a vibrant arts and crafts community and lots more. Can you tell I’m excited?

Now, since I’m moving to a totally new state, I need a teensy tiny bit of help…

Do you live in Seattle? If you live nearby, give me a little shout in the comments below. I’ve only been to Seattle a few times, so any tips you can share would be greatly appreciated (events, shopping, great food, etc). And if you’re looking to squeeze a new friend into your crew there, I’d love to meet up when I get settled in. Have a cup of coffee or a cupcake or something?

Aw shucks, I liked knowing you were in my own back yard. However, congratulations on the big move! I’m excited for you!

I know, I liked that too. Thanks Vanessa.

Awesome! I live in the Seattle area (in Redmond). It’s a great city and definitely has a fantastic art scene. There are some fun artsy groups- I am part of the etsyRAIN meetup group and that has been a great way to connect with other creative people.

If you have any questions or just want to hang out, feel free to contact me!

That’s great! I actually moved from Seattle to Buffalo, NY last year and miss many things…which part of Seattle are you moving to? Downtown or a surrounding city? Tacoma, WA is a nice place to spend time also…if you have a chance take the Underground Tour…I didn’t know the underground history until finally taking the tour after living is Seattle over 20 years! It’s also nice to take the ferry over to Bainbridge Island – it’s a beautiful marina and waterfront park. And also Alki beach is great for walks (or roller blading) in the summer. If you have any specific questions, let me know! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Jenny and Dina. I will be actually be in Seattle. South Lake Union is where our apartment is. BTW-I have heard so many great things about etsyRAIN.

OHMYGOSH!!!!! YAY!!!! I am so excited and I’ll totally take you out for cupcakes!!! We just moved back to Seattle after five years this summer. Just email me and I can help you with whatever you’d like to know!

Jenny @ Hank + Hunt

Thanks Jenny! I will definitely email you. ๐Ÿ™‚ I had no idea that you lived in Seattle.

Hi Brittni, and welcome to the Pacific Northwest! I have been in Seattle for almost 2 years and love it. There is a very dynamic art and handmade community here. I can tell you all about our fabric and art supply stores! Feel free to contact me when you get here, I’d love to hear from you and meet up.

Jenny B.

So thrilled for you. Living in So. Oregon, you get the full flavor of all the Pacific Northwest. Congrats and enjoy Seattle!!!!

My sister in law lives in Sammamish, it’s beautiful there. Have fun and try not to get too stressed with the move. :0)

Hey, Brittni! Great news!! I live in Seattle รขโ‚ฌโ€œ you’ll love it! Let me know when you are due to arrive. Hurry รขโ‚ฌโ€œ summer weather is gorgeous right now.

Oooh fun! Welcome to my city Brittni! I live in the Magnolia area, it’s beautiful, very close to downtown and the heart of Seattle, but feels private and neighborhoody. It’s almost like an island without a bridge. My backyard park is Discovery, and I can walk across the Locks to Ballard. I’d love to meet ya where you’re here, just holla! ๐Ÿ™‚ xo

Shannon of ** Happiness Is...**

Well, there actually IS a bridge into Magnolia, but it’s not an island – ha!

Congrats on the move! Love finding new spots to call home. I went to college in St. Augustine, so I’ve been to Jacksonville, and I have to say Seattle seems like a good move for you!

Good luck with the move and looking forward to see you the design and style of your site & products adapts to the rainy climate ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jessica Newell

I live about an hour outside of Seattle. You’re just in time for a beautiful autumn, lots of fresh apples, then more rain than you ever thought possible! Welcome!!

yes, as Clarity stated above, you will experience a longer stretch of gray skies and rain, but stay for one whole summer and you’ll fall head over heels for this city. =)

p.s. seattle ppl have issues with driving in extreme weather conditions. (first rain fall of the year = traffic, first snow day = traffic. pretty much anything weird falling from the sky = traffic. oh, and anything above 90 degrees = traffic. but the last one rarely happens so you don’t have to worry.

Here are some links & email lists to get you started.

& here is a picture tour organized by neighborhoods

Good luck with the move. I hope your new home brings you joy!

I live east side in Kirkland.. I love knowing that another creative person is moving here versus moving away.. welcome!

Sending good wishes for your move and wanted to share a Seattle blog that I read:

Oh my gosh I’m so jealous!! I want to move to Seattle SO bad! You’re going to have great time!!

Brittni, you will LOVE Seattle! It is an amazing city, full of art, independent shops, wonderful food and beautiful scenery. We’re headed in the opposite direction to Southern Oregon for the next 3 months. BUT if we get back to the area ( which I hope we do ) I would love to hang out!

Oh my goodness! Thank you for the very sweet remarks, well-wishes, and recommendations. Looks like I’ll have a lot of friends when I move. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yay! Welcome to Seattle! I’ve lived here my whole life. I love to travel, but am always happy to come home to the Emerald City. South Lake Union is a great up-and-coming area, especially for young, creative types. I think you’ll like it there. I live in Green Lake. There are lots of great neighborhoods in the city, and all pretty distinct. Water, Mountains. Enjoy exploring the city!

In the Queen Anne area, there is a fantastic place called Teacup. Lots of fantastic teas, really nice and cozy and if you ask nicely, they will re-steep your tea. ๐Ÿ™‚ They also discount the tea of the day. I’m partial to the Vanilla Mint Tea Latte myself.

yaaaay!!! welcome to the most beautiful state! if you need a coffee/craft buddy, feel free to email me. me and my lady friends are doing a fall craft night so if you’d like some new friends to hang out with let me know!

Hi Brittni! I want to congratulate you and Jeff on your move! Moving across the country is very exciting–I love the west coast! I’m actually in Eugene Oregon at the moment visiting family, but everytime I visit I want to stay! Best wishes for your move; I’m sure you’ll feel right at home.

hooray for seattle! i’m in west seattle. in your ‘hood, you should check out fierabend, over near REI. glorious german pub, one of my favorites! can get a little noisy, but totally worth it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am also here in the “Emerald City” and have been for the last ten years. Love it, love it, love it. Great art, music, and food scenes. Email away if you’re looking for recommendations when you get here! (Off the top of my head and near your new neighborhood- Portage Bay is fabulous for breakfast!) Congrats!

HI! Congrats on the move! Seattle is beautiful. ๐Ÿ™‚

oh I just saw this! congrats on the move! I hope you’ll love it there – I’m in the area but about 45 minutes from Seattle so I don’t have a good neighborhood recommendation ๐Ÿ™‚

Hooray for the Emerald City! I’m a Wallingford girl myself, so I’m partial to Gasworks Park, Trophy Cupcakes and Paseo sandwiches!

Yay Brittni! I’m in Seattle, we should meet up for coffee sometime – if there’s anything this city does well, it’s coffee!

I’m in Seattle, having just moved here from Portland about three years ago. Love it!
Great vibe…great food, arts, culture…Welcome!

Welcome to Seattle – I have lived here all my life and love it!! When you get here and get settled I would absolutely love to take you to herkimer a favorite spot for coffee on phinney ridge…seriously super excited to have such talent move this way, congrats!

Congrats! My husband and I move 3 hours south (Portland, OR) 1 1/2 years ago from the Midwest, and WE LOVE IT! It’s fantastic, rain or shine! Let me know if you’ll be coming down to visit PDX at any time!

Amy Alan

hey Brittni – I’ve been in Seattle about 4 years and in WA state my whole life! Seattle is a great city with a wonderful community – I’m sure you’ll be at home in no time ๐Ÿ™‚ The state is actually incredibly diverse. So if you get tired of the gray skies, a trip over the mountains can be really rejuvenating, or the easy drive down to Portland a nice change of pace!

How exciting, Brittni! I live just south of Tacoma in a little spot called Steilacoom, about an hour south of Seattle. I would love, love, love to get together any time. This is a truly beautiful state, which I’ve been exploring for the last two years, and would love to recommend some daytrips for you. (Number one on the list is anywhere in the San Juan Islands!) Best of luck with your move, I’ll sending you a welcome email:)

Awesome Bonnie. I just emailed you.

Thank you again yo everyone for the lovely comments. I have tried to respond via email to most of you. But just wanted to say it again here. Once I get to Seattle, I am TOTALLY up for hanging out with anyone who is game. ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree with everyone, you will love the whole Seattle area, I grew up in NE Tacoma (though, I have to admit, I don’t know if I could handle the rain again) and have great memories of the whole area. Also, don’t miss out on central and eastern WA. I went to college in Ellensburg and it wasn’t ’til then I realized there was a whole other side to the state that I’ve now grown quite fond of (and married a guy from over there too!). So, I recommend Leavenworth and Snoqualmie falls, and Stehekin, especially if you need a nice, sunny day without rain! ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy!
