The Great (Modern) Outdoors
I hope this isn’t too off topic, but… its officially summer and nothing says I love being hot and sticky like doing some good old-fashioned yard work in the middle of the day.
But keeping up with the great outdoors can often feel like an absolutely daunting task, and if you don’t happen to be one of those “yard-work types” how do you keep your outdoor space from looking like a run-down jungle?
Well, I have been trying to figure that out since we moved into our first home two years ago.
But one thing is for sure…every option I can think of involves cutting down on the amount of grass I have to mow.

So, the first idea that comes to mind is creating an easy to maintain patio or deck.
The bigger the better, whether it be reclaimed wood, concrete, or stone.
If you don’t have a green thumb, you will want to make sure you get this part right!
I love the stained concrete blocks in the first image.
It really gives a modern feeling, while adding a pop of color.
Choosing concrete over wood may prove to be cost effective and easier to maintain as well.

This second option may be a crazy thought for some…fake grass!
I know, I know- it sounds weird, but aren’t these lawns beautiful? They don’t look fake do they? But they are.
They actually make some pretty realistic looking faux grass now, and the days of astroturf, mini-golf carpet is gone.
Think about the amount of time you would save on mowing the lawn, not to mention the amount of money you would save on watering the “lawn”.
What do you think? Would you try one of these backyard options with your own home?

Oh wow. How great are those tiles?!
Amanda NicoleHmmm… You bring up a good point Erica. I hadn’t really thought about winter since I live in Florida and the grass doesn’t really die here during the winter. But you’re right. On the other hand, you might keep your neighbors guessing as to how you have that “magical grass” that always looks perfect. 🙂

I’m not sure…what about winter time? Wouldn’t bright green grass look strange then? It would certainly be a delight to not have to mow however!
