I remember when the greeting card company American Greetings started a penpal service — American Greetings to the World. I signed up for it and eventually was writing to other students in Australia and England. We exchanged pictures and stickers and cute stationary and I always greeted the mail delivery with anticipation. So here’s to bringing back a little of that vintage pen pal spirit — back when the mailbox brought more than just a flood of bills and super savings coupons.

I had a pen pal in elementary school.
ElizabethWe exchanged pictures and wrote for many years. I also had a pen pal through American Greetings pen pals. He was from Kent,England.
You can still do pen pals… via e-pals or snail mail. Try my free e-newsletter on my website and you’ll find new pen pal friendships in your email box. I keep pals safe, so I don’t publish ads online, only in my e-newsletter. If pals want to write via snail mail (many/most do!) then they simply swap postal addresses privately.
Happy Writing! Wendy
p.s. I also got pals through the American Greetings program! I loved international pals best and learned so much about the world we live in!
WendyI had a pen pal in high school…I sent her my first letter in 1994 and thank God I did…we met in person a year later and now she’s been my best friend for almost half my life. (We switched to e-mails in 1999, though. ;))
