Turkey Time: A Modern Thanksgiving Tablescape That’s Still Cozy and Colorful

Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that people who love entertaining (like me) tend to go a little overboard on. Especially when it comes to tablescape decor. In my book, it’s completely acceptable to be a little extra during the holidays and put in the effort for a really beautiful (but still simple) tablescape.

So, I partnered with Etsy to create a unique Thanksgiving dinner table that features handmade goods from my fave Etsy sellers and a handful of easy DIY ideas. Click through to see how it all came together.

When I started setting everything up for this, I suddenly felt like a kid again. Which may seem a little strange, but when I was little, my brother and I would set the table for holiday dinner parties while my parents did the cooking. We’d iron the napkins, get out the ‘special’ dinnerware and do our best to make everything look nice. I think I remember my brother even drawing little pictures for each place setting one year. We both were pretty into it, to say the least.

And now, all these years later, I’m still very, VERY into it. I may not have my brother’s doodles, but I do have a handful of DIY touches to pair with all the handmade items and supplies I picked up from Etsy. I swear I could have spent a whole day browsing the site for pieces to add to the table because there are SO many amazing sellers.

I used plates, cups, and silverware I already had, then added unique details to make things pop – like these hand stamped linens from Willow Ship and the mini gourds I picked up for 50 cents a piece at the grocery store. I also bought some beeswax candles and simple votive cups to create a warm and cozy vibe. I love using candles for dinner parties.

Hostess gift ideas for Thanksgiving and/or party favors for guests. #thanksgiving #tablescape #tabledecor #entertainingideas #thanksgivingentertaining #thanksgivingdiy

I whipped up some  place cards with air dry clay, a hexagon cookie cutter, and a little paint. And also made clay rainbow keepsakes the same way, for guests to take home. Speaking of which…For guests, these pumpkin spice candles from Sweet Water Decor and homemade s’more kits from Whimsy & Spice make great gifts for company to take home. OR as a hostess gift if you’re heading to a family or friend’s house this year.

The big floral centerpiece is a mixture of seasonal dried flowers and fresh florals in fall colors. I used a handmade ceramic bowl from Creating Comfort Lab (really cool shop based in New York) as the vessel this time and added floral foam to the bowl to make creating the centerpiece faster and easier. You just submerge the foam in water according to instructions, add it to the bowl, and then you can start sticking your flower stems straight into the foam. So easy!

After gathering everything up, it was just a matter of setting the table and bringing in the food. What do you think?

Thanks Michelle! They really are so simple to make. The paint color made all the difference in making them look elegant I think. Almost looks like cement or something.
