Make This: A Colorful DIY Party Idea to Get Ready for Summer + Cinco de Mayo

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is one week from today and while this especially colorful holiday doesn’t typically get my attention, I can (and will) get into this year. Why? Because it’s almost May, which happens to be a bit of a turning point in the year for me…

It’s starts to get hot outside again, the rain is pretty much done for the most part, summer is coming, and my birthday is in there as well. Lots of welcome changes each year for May. Why not celebrate?

So, I partnered with Tic Tacs to put together a colorful DIY party idea that is one part Cinco de Mayo and two parts summer lovin’. Naturally, it involves a pineapple.

Getting ready for summer

Tic Tacs for Cinco de Mayo

But before I share my DIY party ideas, I wanted to tell you about a new site that Tic Tac just launched where anyone can go and “create their own pack” by picking out their favorite flavors.  Mix and match. It’s pretty fun actually. There will also be events in select cities where anyone can go and actually produce a custom Tic Tac pack, like I did.

I made my own custom packs with passion fruit, lime, green apple, dark strawberry, berry, and orange. And they even have my name on them. Lots of colors and flavors. And actually, that color scheme inspired my DIY party ideas for summer and Cinco de Mayo. So let’s talk about that some more…

Colorful Honeycombs for a DIY Garland

how to make a honeycomb garland

I found these tiny honeycomb food picks at Hobby Lobby and they were super affordable, so I bought a couple of containers of them and took them apart. Here’s how to make the honeycomb garland.

Materials: honeycomb food picks, string or twine, scissors, and a needle

How To: Remove the honeycomb balls from the food picks, careful not to smash them. Then thread a long string through a needle and thread honeycombs through the center one by one. Continue this process until 30-40 honeycombs have been added. Knot both sides to secure the ends and hang. That’s it. Super easy!

You can make festive drink stirrers as well, by threading honeycombs through a wood skewer. Add a pineapple or two just for fun and minimal black and white napkins and table linens, so the colors will really pop. And you’re good to go.
