Field Trip: Inspiration from a Crazy Little Emu Farm (in Atlanta)

That parrot life

When I was a kid, my favorite days at school were always field trip days. They always felt like some kind of adventure – roller coasters, a petting zoo, the yearly mud walk (my favorite). But as I grew up, those field trips slowly lost their luster, until (eventually) there weren’t any trips during school hours to look forward to. Ah, one of the downgrades to growing up.

A couple of weeks ago, though, I found a crazy cool / strange place that I thought would be perfect for a shoot. Photo shoots are basically the adult version of field trips these days. And I get just as excited about these ‘field trips’ as I did when I was a kid.

So,  Amelia and I packed everything up, including the ombre hanging ice chests and spent the day at an intown emu farm. Random? Yes! But also kind of magical? Definitely!

We were there for most of the day and even though we were both complete piles of sweat when we left, we both vowed to go back when the weather cools down again. Until then though, we have plenty of photos to share from our day at the farm…the swans, the giant koi pond, and (of course) a few emus too.

If you’re in Atlanta and want to check out this place for yourself, here’s the link. Highly recommend checking it out if you can…It’s actually an Airbnb, so you can rent a room there too, if you’re coming in from out of town.

Were you a field trip kid growing up? What was your favorite class trip? What kinds of ‘field trip’ adventures are you getting into as an adult? I want to hear it all.

Emus in America! Those things sure do get around haha. I love seeing them out in the wild here in Australia, they run like you couldn’t believe!

Me either, Ashli. I just stumbled upon it when I was searching for a place for a shoot.

Oh my gosh! There’s an emu farm in Atlanta? Definitely have to check this out! I used to love going to science museums and anything with animals!
