I just couldn’t wait until October 1st to start posting Halloween projects. I’m too impatient.
So, today, I wanted to share a super quick and easy dessert idea to get you inspired for Halloween parties this year…DIY eyeball mini cakes! These sweet treats are a little bit bizarre and a little bit awesome.
They’re more on the cute side than creepy, but that’s how I like my Halloween projects anyway. And I hope you do too.
Here’s the super quick tutorial for these ‘all seeing’ eye desserts…
Ingredients:
Hostess Snoballs (which are cream filled mini cakes, covered in marshmallow and coconut), black licorice, Oreos, vanilla icing
How-To:
1. Start by separating the Oreos, removing the cream center, so you’re left with just the cookie ends. Place one cookie on top of each Snoball, attaching it with a little bit of icing (think of it as edible glue).
2. Cut pieces of licorice down to roughly three inches long. These pieces will become the eyelashes.
3. Add a little bit of icing to one end of each piece of licorice. Attach 3-5 licorice pieces to each Snoball, to look like eyelashes. Done!
That’s it. So easy. Right?
And they actually taste really good too. Although, I’d probably eat the licorice separately from the cake and Oreo. Since it’s such a different taste.
Take it further: If you want to make these eyeballs a little more creepy and a little less cutesy, add veiny red lines with food coloring for bloodshot eyes. In case you’re wondering…I did actually try it after I took these photos and it worked really well. I used a wood skewer to draw the lines with gel food coloring.
