DIY // floral flower rope party place setting

The best part of throwing any dinner party is planning the decorating details. Don’t you think? And if you’re having a dinner party, you may as well add some fancy place card settings and flowers to the mix, right? Right!

Remind guests to ‘have a ball’ at your next sit down get-together with these unique, rope ball place settings. They actually remind me of balls of yarn, which make them perfect for your creative friends and family members, especially. Adorned with fresh flowers and a handwritten place card, guests will feel welcomed from the minute they grab their seat at the table. Here’s how you can make your own…

supplies for floral place setting project

Supplies + Materials Needed: small florals that can survive without much water or air plants, scissors, craft glue, paper mache ball (or tennis ball), floral wire, wire cutters, and upholstery piping cord

How-To: Glue one end of your upholstery cord to the paper mache ball and let it dry. Once dry, begin wrapping the cord around the ball until it is almost completely covered. Once the ball is basically concealed by the cord, it is time to start adding a few flowers here and there. Place a flower in an area that you want it to show through and then cover over the stem of the flower with your cord as you continue to wrap the cord around and around the ball. Continue this process until you have reached the desired look. Cut off any excess cord and glue the end of the cord to the ball. Next, cut a long piece of floral wire that can be formed into a circle. Use this to sit your rope ball in. It will rest inside this circle, without rolling away. Add a handwritten place card and an extra bloom or two you have a unique place setting that will make your guests smile.

Bonus: Your guests can take these home at the end of the night, while the flowers are still fresh, to use as decoration in their homes. Great for weddings too!

These are so classy! I totally didn’t realize the rope was upholstery cord until I read it listed in the supplies. And I agree – planning the decor ideas for parties is always my favourite part too. 🙂

Thanks Kel. It’s definitely an unexpected combo, but I think that’s why it works.

This is awesome! Never would have thought of combining florals + rope like this but it looks fantastic. And the “Have a ball!” tagline totally cracked me up!
