What do you Want to be Remembered for?

Today Im participating in Tiffany Moores Big Questions extravaganza. You know Tiffany, right? She’s an amazing contributor here on papernstitch and she believes in asking the Big Questions – the kind that help you decipher your (actual) dreams “” and (actually) do “˜em. Find out who else is answering The Big Questions and how you can win your own Big Question session here (there are 10 of us participating all together).

What do you want to be remembered for?

Well, if I’m being honest, it was a lot more difficult to put this into words than I thought it would be because (dang) this is a pretty meaty question. The kind of question that left me in deep thought for hours before writing this post. But after dealing with the passing of my grandmother and our cat within weeks of each other, it is actually something that has strangely been on my mind a lot lately.

So what do I want to be remembered for? Well, a lot of things came to mind – some superficial, some pretty deep. But as I thought and thought and thought some more, there were really only two things that kept popping up. Two things that really mattered. At least for me…

  1. I want to be remembered for being a kind, compassionate person.
  2. I want to be remembered for helping others.

I am a firm believer that kindness conquers most.

I believe that kindness can change lives, heal wounds, and most certainly help others.

But I want to be remembered not just as someone who is kind, compassionate, and helps others; I want to actually BE someone who is kind, compassionate, and helps others, whether I am remembered for it or not. Helping my family overcome challenges and obstacles, helping strangers (that become friends) pursue their passions, and everything in between.

So that’s my list.

It’s a little scary and nerve wracking to say those things out loud, but now that I have, I’m glad I did. I hope you’ll hold me to it, if you ever see me getting out of whack.

And now that I’ve poured a little bit of my heart and soul out to you, I’d love for you to try it too…

Hi Tiffany, I don’t know you personally, but this post of yours touched me and I shared it in face book too. Long ago, I remember when a seven year old girl was asked what do you want to be when you grow up? She replied, just like you , – I want to be a kind person. What a profound answer. Many years later I heard that in your blog too. If you can remember it everyday, I am sure you’ll be a very happy and successful person and you’ll be remembered as a kind person indeed.

Yes. Kindness indeed conquers most. Is it possible to change yourself to the way you want to influence others? I want people to remember me as a strong yet compassionate women who takes care of her family more than her life.

Brittni – I love how you dug into the question and came up with how you wanted to be and actually show up in the world now. It gave me chills.
