After all of those holiday cookies, heavy meals, and general winter hibernation, I’m definitely feeling like I could use something a bit more healthy in my system for the new year. What about you?
So, I asked Kate Kordsmeier of Root + Revel (who I know personally and is so great with this stuff – Kate just so happens to live in the same building as my studio) to help! And she sent over the perfect green smoothie recipe, which is also vegan!
Kate Kordsmeier is a food writer and recipe developer for over 100 publications, and the founder of Root + Revel, a food and wellness site delivering inspiration to help people live naturally, without sacrifice (read: you can still eat yummy things- yay!).
Kate just launched a brand new eBook, Superfood Green Smoothies, and today’s vegan green smoothie is one of the recipes in the book. All of the recipes in the eBook were beautifully photographed by Heidi Geldhauser (who I’ve worked with before too – remember this post?) and 100% delicious, I promise. Onto the recipe!
Ingredients
- 2 cups spinach
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (add ¼ cup at a time more if you need more liquid)
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons hemp seeds (Kate recommends Manitoba Harvest)
- 2 tablespoons almond butter (Kate recommends NaturAlmond)
- 2 dates
Recipe (makes 2 servings)
Combine all ingredients into a large, high-powered blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Serve and enjoy. That’s it. So simple.
Gotta love easy smoothie recipes, especially when they’re good for you. Right?

How have you been kicking off the new year so far? Are those old habits dying hard or do you have this new year on lock?

Laurel SantosThis sounds great and awesome for detoxing!
Love that you’ve added chia and hemp seeds in, and the dates are a great way to sweeten it up naturally. Can’t wait to try it out for myself!
DanielThis sounds so good! I’ll have to try this out x

JessicaAwesome Sofia. Let me know how it goes!
BrittniLove a good green smoothie! Also love the idea of adding hemp seeds! And dates are great alternative for sweetening it up! I usually add pineapple + mango to sweeten it up, so I’ll have to try a date!

Right Rachael? That’s what I was thinking. I need to reset and get back on track with food stuff, so this smoothie recipe seemed like a good way to start.
