I’ve been saving old cards (from the holidays, etc) to use as card stock for projects and now that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I’ve figured out a way to use them. Using pink mylar tissue paper (which you may remember I used in this V-Day project), I created heart shaped drink toppers that sit on the rim of a glass.
This DIY is super easy, so it’s a good option for parties or something smaller (like breakfast in bed). Add a name to each heart and use it as a drink marker or just a love note to your significant other as he/she is drinking orange juice in the morning.
How ever you decide to use them, they’ll only take about 15 minutes to make.
And, if for some reason, you can’t find mylar tissue paper, you can actually use a deflated mylar balloon instead! So save those birthday balloons once they’ve deflated, cut the material out and use it just as you would the tissue paper.
Here’s how to make your own mylar drink toppers for V-Day…
Materials:
-Recycled Holiday Cards
-Scissors
-Craft Glue
-Mylar Tissue Paper
How To:
1. To make the hearts extra thick, open up an old holiday card and add strips of glue to the inside. Then, close the card and press down to secure the two sides together as one. Let dry.
2. Next, glue a piece of mylar to card stock.
3. Cut out heart shapes with a pair of scissors.
4. Then, cut a slit in the bottom of each heart so that is about 1/8 inch wide. Add the finished drink topper to a glass and you’re all set.
Cocktail Ideas:
And if you need a cocktail recipe to go with these drink toppers try equal parts orange juice and pineapple rum. Or mix a splash of orange liqueur and a shot of vodka, with 3-4 ounces of grapefruit italian soda (or juice) and a sugar rim.

I love the idea of using these drink toppers to surprise someone on V-Day with breakfast in bed. All you need is a tray, some juice, and a few pastries. Or you could do pancakes, scrambled eggs, etc.
What’s your favorite breakfast-in-bed type of meal to make? Have any favorites?
