Christmas may be over, but the hot chocolate doesn’t have to be. This red wine hot chocolate is exactly what you need to cure a holiday hangover… that, or some french fries. But this option is far more festive.
Plus, its a fun way to celebrate the upcoming new year too, if you’re in the mood for something warm and cozy feeling. Click through for this (super easy) boozy hot chocolate recipe.
Red Wine Hot Chocolate (2 servings)
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup half and half
- 2/3 cup dry red wine
- 2/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- dash of salt
Combine ingredients in a saucepan. Whisk constantly over medium heat until chocolate chips are fully dissolved and the whole mixture is hot.
If your wine is super dry, you may want to add 2-3 teaspoons of sugar. However, if you have a fruitier wine then you won’t need to add sugar. I would suggest taste testing and adjusting as necessary. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and add homemade whipped cream…
Homemade Whipped Cream
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla
Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix with an electric mixer until it becomes the consistency of whipped cream (creates stiff peaks). If you do not have an electric mixer, you can also try using a blender like we had to in a pinch.
