Let’s Party: DIY Party Ideas for New Year’s Eve

I can hardly believe how fast this year has gone by, especially the month of December. So, before this year completely flies by, I wanted to share a couple of quick and easy New Year’s Eve ideas…

Leather firework drink stirrers and leather party hats.

Okay, okay…. I realize that leather might not be the first thing that comes to your head when you think NYE, but that’s exactly why I thought it would be fun to try.

Just something a little bit different than your standard black and gold new years ideas. You game?

You can pick up the exact same leather that I used, over on Darby Smart, and I have a quick run down for each DIY idea below as well…

To make the leather drink stirrers, cut a piece of leather into a rectangle, that is roughly 3 inches long. Fold it in half, glue the two sides together, then fringe the leather running the length. Add a bead of glue to the infringed area at the top. Then wrap it around a wooden skewer and wait for it to dry.

To make a leather party hat, use a paper party hat template as a guide to cut a piece of leather.

Then glue the leather onto the paper party hat (once the paper party hat has been assembled). Punch holes in each side, add a piece of elastic and you’re good to go.

After the hats were done, I used a little textile paint to add a few patterns. I tried this with drink stirrers as well, just for fun.

Again, not exactly the most traditional New Year’s Eve color scheme, but I’m not exactly very traditional when it comes to this kind of stuff anyway. I mean, I threw a Christmas party that was solely decorated with neon colors. So, go figure.
