A Fall Refresh for Our Master Bedroom

A modern bedroom that has been decorated for fall with a cozy blanket and rug.

If you follow along on stories, you know that when we moved Hayes’ crib into our room, we had to play musical chairs with our old furniture layout for a while. Then once he started sleeping in his own room (and his crib moved out of ours), we moved all our bedroom furniture back to where it was before.

Phew! Problem solved, right? Unfortunately, not exactly. Even after switching the layout back, it didn’t quite feel right. The room seemed a little cold, especially now that fall was hitting.

And with it getting darker earlier, it felt even more important to create a cozy master bedroom that I literally never want to leave….

I mean I don’t even have to get out of bed to turn the lights on and off. What more could I ask for? I partnered with Signify to upgrade my bedroom lighting with the Philips Smart Wi-Fi LED collection and am sharing my best tips for a fall bedroom refresh.

When the natural light during the day is bright enough, we often don’t even turn the lights on until it’s dark out. But there have been multiple days recently that have been so dark we’ve really needed our overhead lights on, not just at night, but during the day, too. Ugh. Come back soon sunshine! And that’s where the Philips Smart Wi-Fi LED collection comes into play.

The fact that you can easily change the shade of white light, from warm white to cool daylight, to suit your needs is perfect for this girl! (I love daylight tones!) Plus, you can turn your lights on and off from anywhere using the free, easy-to-use app and your home’s Wi-Fi network – no wiring or additional equipment is required. You can set it up in just a couple of minutes.

And if you’re especially lazy (like me), you can control your lights with the sound of your voice if you have a compatible Amazon Alexa or Google Home device. I mean, does it get any better?

So with my new light bulbs and a handful of other items, I was able to get our master bedroom into shape for fall / winter super quick – taking a page from all the tips I shared in my fall decorating ideas post. And now I actually want to hang out in there again!

So, what are the main areas to tackle in a bedroom when doing a refresh? For me, there are a handful of musts. Here are the main things that transformed our space for fall…

1) Soft textiles. Soft and cozy textiles are a must. So, the biggest change I made in the room is the rug. I wanted something much bigger than the rug we had in the room before. So, when I jump out of bed in the morning, my toes are touching something soft and warm.

The bold colors in the rug are an added bonus for the season. And yes, this is the rug that I originally tried in the living room. It looks so much better in here. Don’t you think?

I also added a thick, cozy, oh-so-soft blanket – in a creamy neutral. I purposefully chose cream instead of white to warm things up, while keeping it neutral. And a few pillows round things out – mainly that extra-long lumbar pillow that I made earlier this year from a rug I got on mega sale.

2) Artwork. If you can’t change the wall color (or don’t want to), new artwork is the next best thing. A few new things for the walls can instantly change the entire vibe of a space.

Want something fall inspired? Try something with a deep or rich fall color peppered in – like the black brushstrokes in the large scale print I have to the right of our bed, or the pieces I have resting on the bench.

3) Light bulbs! This may seem like a weird one to include, but honestly even if Signify wasn’t a partner, I’d be including it. Lighting is a game changer during the fall and winter months.

Like I mentioned before, the days are so, so short around here right now. Even this ‘natural light all the time’ kinda girl needs to turn on the lights once the sun goes down. Which is why I am so sold on the Philips Smart Wi-Fi LEDs that I installed. FYI – I used the Tunable White BR30 LED 65-Watt Equivalent for the recessed lighting.

4) Florals and/or dried grasses. Dried grasses and florals are great and while I’m pampas grass crazy over here right now, I showed some restraint and went with dried palm leaves instead to take up more visual space.

A wood peg rail hangs on a white wall with hats, scarves, and bags.

Other things that helped transformed the space?

The peg rail! If you’re new around here, let me be the first to tell you that I am completely obsessed with peg rails. I’ve put them in many of the rooms of our house with no plans of stopping. But the reason why I use them so much is because they’re super functional, look great, AND are super budget-friendly. What’s not to love?

Some live plants. This isn’t specific to fall, but anytime I can bring in living plants, I do! I bought a new (huge) fiddle fig from Home Depot. Which btw is the best place I’ve found to buy really big AND affordable fiddles. And a couple of smaller plants too.

And last but not least, I added a DIY fall wreath right when you walk in to bring the fall vibes full circle. Literally. Haha.

Simple modern bedroom with earthy colorful accessories.

So, that’s it for my fall bedroom refresh. What do you think? What have you recently done in your home to bring in some of those seasonal, cozy vibes?
