Because two buns are always better than one, today’s DIY hair tutorial is a double bun!
This hairdo is a bit more on the playful side than most, but it’s also super functional because it’s really secure.
Which means you could wear it for a casual day with friends or something more active, like running errands, exercising, or playing double dutch. 🙂

Supplies Needed for Double Bun Updo
- comb for teasing
- 2 elastic hair ties
- bobby pins
Double Bun Updo (How To)
1. Part your hair and make pigtails.
Split your hair into two sections, parted down the middle. Then, pull your hair into two high pigtails.
2. Tease hair and wrap around.
Lightly tease each pigtail and then wrap into a bun and secure with bobby pins.
I like to twist the hair as I wrap it into a bun, but that’s completely optional.
3. Add hair pins.
To make each bun a little wider, pull sections out slightly that seem like they might be pulled tightly in the bun.
Secure with hair pins to keep them in place.

P.S. If today’s hair tutorial looks familiar its because there was a surprise sneak peek a couple of weeks ago when I shared the sunny striped DIY nails tutorial.
Think you’ll give this fun double bun a try? Would love to know what you think.

Hi sooo I have armpit length hair but it’s EXTREMELY thick. I’ve tried this but it looks so stupid on me and I’m so embarrassed. How do I do it then? ☹️
KaylaI’m a little confused about how I am supposed to pull my hair after I tease it into a bun cause I medium long red hair and it’s hard for me to pull it up into high ponies? Other than that I have no other questions and I just wanted to tell you that this site is really cute and reliable! I love it!
KiraHi there,
DeirdreThe part that’s hard for me is wrapping it into a bun and you don’t show that. I have long, thick hair and it always gets lopsided and heavy and I can’t secure the bun with an elastic.
How many bobby-pins do you need
CheeseburgerYou can have short or long hair for this so here is some steps only two steps step1.make a high ponny tail but leve some hair down. Then step2.make that little ponny tail into a bun then put a hair tie in your hair.ps it is a school look if you are hurrying cuz your late🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
HaileeYou could just make one at the bottom of your hair but leave half down long or you can have short hair 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁.
HaileeInner Miley? This look was popular in Kpop and Asia in general long before Miley did it…
ErinnaHi Kiana. How short is it? Can you get it all up in a ponytail. If so, you should be fine. If not, you can still probably do a half up half down version of this one. Hope that helps.

If I have really wavy and short hair can I still do this?
KianaHi Dylan. It just needs to be long enough to put up in a ponytail (or you can start the buns lower).
BrittniHow long does your hair need to be for this?

The Weekend Reading List - Coco's Tea PartyIf you have short hair, you could probably do half up half down double buns, Michelle. That would be cute too.
BrittniThis is super cute, I wish my hair was long enough to do this!
