Two Buns are Better Than One // A Double Bun Hair Tutorial in 5 Minutes

Because two buns are always better than one, today’s DIY hair tutorial is a double bun! This hairdo is a bit more on the playful side than most, but it’s also super functional because it’s really secure. Which means you could wear it for a casual day with friends or something more active, like running errands, exercising, or playing double dutch. 🙂

DIY double bun hair tutorial

What you need…

  • comb for teasing
  • 2 elastic hair ties
  • bobby pins

How to get the look…

1. Split your hair into two sections, as shown, and pull into high pigtails.

2. Lightly tease each pigtail and then wrap into a bun and secure with bobby pins. I like to twist the hair as I wrap it into a bun, but that’s completely optional.

3. To make each bun a little wider, pull sections out slightly that seem like they might be pulled tightly in the bun and secure with hair pins to keep them in place.

P.S. If today’s hair tutorial looks familiar its because there was a surprise sneak peek a couple of weeks ago when I shared the sunny striped DIY nails tutorial.

Think you’ll give this fun double bun a try? Would love to know what you think.

This is super cute, I wish my hair was long enough to do this!

If you have short hair, you could probably do half up half down double buns, Michelle. That would be cute too.

How long does your hair need to be for this?

Dylan | November 12th, 2016 at 9:34 am

Hi Dylan. It just needs to be long enough to put up in a ponytail (or you can start the buns lower).

If I have really wavy and short hair can I still do this?

Hi Kiana. How short is it? Can you get it all up in a ponytail. If so, you should be fine. If not, you can still probably do a half up half down version of this one. Hope that helps.
